SURROUNDED

One of the neatest places to literally ring-in a new year is at Bosingak in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

Bosingak is a bell tower from the Joseon Dynasty. During the dynasty, the bell was rung twice a day to announce the time, and to signal the opening and closing of the city gates.

The bell-ringing event on New Year's Eve brings thousands of people together in Seoul. As the New Year begins, celebrities, and other prominent Korean figures, ring the bell 33 times in celebration of a good year. After, firecrackers are launched from every which way.

The area was filled with a lot of excitement. I was thankful to be surrounded by so much joy to start my 2012. I'm also thankful a child shooting fireworks didn't burn my face.

Where and how did you celebrate? Happy New Year!
