TROUBLE IN PARADISE DAY 4: HONEYMOON'S OVER

Gogi guksu on Jeju Island, South Korea.

Howl and I were completely broke when we made it back to Cheongju International Airport. We spent the last of our money on gogi guksu (Jeju meat noodles) in Jeju City, and couldn’t even afford to take public transportation home. That’s why sometimes in life you have to walk around 20 kilometers because you don’t have enough money to take the bus.

Many things happened along our four-hour walk to Ochang. We fought a little. Saw a rainbow, and the most incredible sunset. There was mud. And some Lady Gaga. Howl pooped. We reminisced about our trip, how everything had seemingly gone wrong.

When we finally made it to my apartment, we had a quick birthday dinner. Then Howl accidentally washed his iPhone with his dirty laundry. What a fitting end to our stormy adventure.

Even though Jeju Island is one of the top Honeymoon destinations for Korean newlyweds, I think it’s safe to say the Honeymoon of our relationship is over. After our trouble in paradise, I’m pretty sure we can make it through anything.

Happy Best-birthday-ever, Howl!

LIFE IN KOREA: Biking Around Jeju

I’d recommend renting bikes from www.hikingjejudo.co.kr if you’re interested in “hiking” around Jeju. They’re so friendly and knowledgeable, and offer good deals because they do it for the love of biking, not for the money.
